We are the local NSSLHA chapter at SFSU. We are a group of pre-professionals who are dedicated to serving individuals with speech, language, hearing, literacy and swallowing difficulties. We represent future SLPs and use the organization as a vehicle to teach members the steps towards becoming a speech language pathologist.

The National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) is a pre-professional membership association for students interested in the study of communication sciences and disorders. NSSLHA is the only official national student association recognized by the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA). National membership is available to undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral students enrolled full- or part-time in a communication sciences program or related major.

"Members Only" Access
Members receive two issues of Contemporary Issues in Communication Science and Disorders (CICSD), issues of NSSLHA's newsletter, NSSLHA Now!, and a print subscription to The ASHA Leader. Members receive a print subscription to one of the following ASHA journals: American Journal of Audiology; American Journal of Speech Language Pathology; Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research; or Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools. Members also receive access to the "members only" areas of the NSSLHA and ASHA Web sites, which include all ASHA journals, NSSLHA Member Forums, "In the Loop" — NSSLHA's monthly e-mail announcement service, and convenient membership dues renewal.
Members receive a reduced registration fee for the ASHA convention. Members are eligible for a discounted Associate Affiliate membership in ASHA's Special Interest Divisions. Members receive discounts on ASHA or NSSLHA products and publications. Members are eligible for the NSSLHA to ASHA Conversion Program Discount, which represents a significant savings on dues and fees for your first year of ASHA membership and certification. There are also Members Discounts on the purchase or lease of a new car from Subaru of America.
The mission of the NSSLHA Chapter of SFSU (“SFSU NSSLHA”) is to support the growth and professional development of students in the Communicative Disorders Program, to meet the challenges of providing competent and compassionate service to people with communication disorders.
This student organization strives to develop the knowledge, skills, leadership, resources, collaborative spirit, and professional network of each student in preparation for a meaningful and productive career. We find inspiration, guidance, and support from one another as students, and through SFSU NSSLHA, we seek to harness our collective creativity, strength, and talents to create a strong community both within school and in the wider community.
